Can I disable the "Engine Running" alarm when opening driver's door?

Is there a way to disable the very loud "Engine Running" alarm that goes off if you open the driver's door with the engine running. When reversing our caravan I need to step out of the car to just double check positioning, talk to wife who is assisting, etc. Perfectly normal stuff that the car seems to think warrants a ridiculously loud alarm. In over 50 y ears of driving I've never yet needed such an alarm, and this is the first car I've had that seems to insist I do.
